What cigarettes cost you, in rupees

Nobody adds it up, because adding it up is unpleasant. Ten seconds.

Every day
₹165
A week₹1,155
A month₹5,023
A year₹60,225
Ten years₹6,02,250
If you tapered to zero over 10 weeks

You’d smoke about 581 fewer cigarettes during the taper itself — ₹6,391 kept — and then ₹60,225 a year after that.

Why the yearly number lands harder

A pack is a rounding error. A year is a holiday. That gap is the entire reason this calculator exists — the daily cost of smoking is small enough to be invisible and the annual cost is large enough to change what you do about it.

It also under-counts, deliberately. This is only the price of the cigarettes: no lighters, no chai bought as an excuse to step out, no insurance loading, no dental work.

Turning the number into a plan

The saving only becomes motivating once it has a name attached — a trip, a phone, a deposit. AakhriSutta tracks the running total against a goal you set yourself, so the figure on screen is “₹18,400 towards Spiti” rather than an abstraction.

If you want the method rather than the app, how to taper off cigarettes is the week-by-week version, and cold turkey or cut down covers which approach to pick.
